Join our local mushing guides on the Chena River for an exciting sled ride pulled by a team of energetic Alaskan Huskies. Get to know the huskies and a brief of history of dog mushing while you experience the splendors of Alaska’s wilderness and the infectious joy of authentic sled dogs.

Tour Details

Cost: $80-$99/person for dog sled ride (Note: Holiday pricing Dec 22 – Dec 29; $99)
$20 Entry fee without the ride. Interested in visiting, learning about dog mushing and seeing sled dogs in action, but don’t want a ride? Join your friend(s) and watch them take off on their ride.

Duration: 30 minutes

Start Times: 11am, 11:30am, 12pm, 12:30pm, 1:30pm & 2pm daily from December – March.

Capacity: 2-4 sled riders per tour

Age Restriction: Guests must be at least 4 years old to participate. Children ages 4-6 must be accompanied by an adult participant during the ride.

Transportation: Trail Breaker Kennel does not provide transportation. Please plan your ride to and from your tour. Please arrive 5 minutes before your tour start time. 

Notes: Please dress warmly for your tour. Prepare to be outside in unpredictable weather for your dog sled ride. Required gear: warm jacket, hat, scarf, mittens, snow pants (if you have them) and warm footwear. Tours will be canceled if the temperature is -25 degrees or colder. Tours will be canceled for children 10 years and younger at -10.

Itinerary: 

  • Arrival and gear check
  • Meet the huskies, pet the sled dogs, learn about the history of the sport and the training required for modern dog mushing
  • The dog sled ride! Our beautiful 2-mile tour trail winds through the wooded Fairbanks lowlands and spills out onto the confluence of the Chena and Tanana Rivers. Heading upstream on the Chena river there will be plenty photo opportunities in the beautiful pastel light of a Fairbanks winter. On the way back to Trail Breaker Kennel you will get a look at the local architecture along the river and a feel for the power and purpose of Alaskan huskies. 
    (Note: If you booked a companion tour to tag along with your friends for the tour, but not join in for the dog sled ride, you will stay at our Winter Tour Office during this time)
  • After the ride you will have an opportunity to thank your team and get any last photos with dogs.
